Lucknow: India’s longest expressway: 594-km Ganga corridor set for grand inauguration
Lucknow, April 25: The Ganga Expressway project, which will bring about a major transformation in the infrastructure sector in Uttar Pradesh, has now reached its final stages. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate it to the nation on April 29.
This approximately 594-km expressway is not only one of the country’s largest infrastructure projects, but is also considered a successful example of the Yogi government’s strategic planning and the effective implementation of the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPIDA).
This mega project, costing approximately ₹37,000 crore, was divided into four major packages (groups) and progressed rapidly. This multi-package model proved to be the project’s greatest strength, playing a crucial role in bringing such a massive project to fruition in a timely manner. The Ganga Expressway project was divided into four major packages and implemented through different agencies. This model allowed major developers and EPC contractors to work in parallel, significantly accelerating construction.
The first package was 129.70 km long, with a total cost of over nine thousand crore rupees. The second package was 151.70 km long, with a total cost of approximately nine thousand crore rupees. The third package was 155.70 km long, with a total cost of approximately nine thousand crore rupees. The fourth and longest package was 156.847 km long, with a total cost of approximately nine thousand crore rupees.
The Yogi government strategically advanced this project. Instead of a single agency, this massive project was divided into multiple parts, allowing work to begin simultaneously on multiple fronts. Dividing the project into four packages not only accelerated its progress but also ensured accountability.
The entire project is being overseen by the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), which ensured strict monitoring at all three levels: design, construction, and quality control. Regular reviews, technical coordination, and ground-level monitoring ensured work in each package progressed according to the set timelines.
Thousands of crores of rupees in investment will give the state’s economy a new direction
A state government spokesperson stated that thousands of crores of rupees have been invested in all four packages, reflecting the enormous scale of the project. The Ganga Expressway will not only provide transportation access, but is also being developed as a unique economic corridor. The integrated manufacturing and logistics clusters associated with it will provide a new impetus to industrial development in the state. This expressway will significantly reduce travel time by connecting western Uttar Pradesh with eastern parts.
The spokesperson told that additionally, it will reduce logistics costs, improve connectivity for industries, and provide new investment opportunities. This project will play a key role in establishing Uttar Pradesh as a strong industrial and logistics hub at the national level.
